It started in 2007. Dr. Nerves told me I will not last for more than 2 weeks if I will not undergo Hemodialysis. I told my siblings that I’d rather not go through it because it’s expensive and we cannot afford it. They cried and insisted saying that we will be able to overcome this trial, that we need to keep the faith…
For more than 3 years I’ve become a burden for my family. Everyone was affected both emotionally and financially. I’ve asked for help from politicians, institutions and close friends. Despite everyone’s generosity, it was still not enough to solve my financial problems.
One day, I called my childhood friend Mel V. Velarde and asked for help. He asked me to come by his office and when I was there I asked him for a job. He looked at me and said, “Toy, you’re not fit to work. What you need is a kidney transplant. ”
I was surprised and extremely happy. From that day on he has consistently given me a monthly budget for my dialysis. He did this religiously until we finally found a match and I was to get transplant – A transplant that is still financially aided by him.
