This speech was delivered during a book launching event in May 2006. The book was entitled “Communicating with Wilma” written by WIlma Tapalla and published by Anvil and the National Bookstore. Mrs. Tapalla is one of the best known Speech Professors in Asia. Mr. Mel Velasco Velarde, Philippine Commissioner to UNESCO, was one of her students. Mrs. Tapalla was absent during this event because of a severe illness, and Mel directed his speech to her to honor her. Mrs. Tapalla through daughter Valerie sent her gratitude to Mel for his tribute and said “My mom watched your tribute many times and you made her cry and happy at the same time,” Few months after this event, Mrs. Tapalla died of kidney failure. She was only 63. This impromptu speech is Mel’s tribute to a great and caring teacher.
